Five Winners Announced for 2024 Earthshot Prize
The winners of the 2024 Earthshot Prize were revealed in Cape Town, Western Cape, with five remarkable environmental solutions each receiving £1 million to accelerate their projects.
Among the winners announced on Wednesday, 6 November, Advanced Thermovoltaic Systems from America was recognised for developing a technology that converts waste heat from heavy industries into electricity, offering a sustainable solution to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, a global group, was honoured for its mission to protect 30% of the world’s land and oceans by 2030.
In Kenya, Keep IT Cool was celebrated for its solar-powered refrigeration systems that help local farmers reduce food waste, while Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative in Kazakhstan was acknowledged for saving the critically endangered Saiga antelope and restoring vital ecosystems.
Green Africa Youth Organization from Ghana won for its innovative waste management model that aims to cut emissions and improve waste practices across Africa.
Britain’s Prince William, who founded the Earthshot Prize, commended these solutions as part of his mission to inspire global change and encourage innovation to repair our planet. The prize continues to support impactful, scalable initiatives for a more sustainable future.
